夏威夷 vs. 海南岛?

Hawai’i vs. Hainan
Oh well, it has so far been a very busy year: three of us just came back yesterday from our five- day trip to Sanya (2/25 – 3/1) -we closed the deal on purchasing our vacation home and also had great time enjoying the beautiful white sand beach and the delicious seafood of all kinds: the weather was awesome! And now I will have to leave for Honolulu in Hawaii for the scheduled conference in about over a week time. I hope I will have time to at least write some more about our fascinating Sanya trip before leaving, but I really doubt it.Anyway, Sue has changed idea and decided not to go with me to Hawaii now that we have just been to a similar spot and also to save her vacation time as well as money –after the new property investment, our family financial is indeed a bit stretched so it makes sense to cut back a little bit. So it is going to be me alone going to that “far far away place” (quote Tanker, he got it from the movie Shrek 2). The route is to fly via Narita in Tokyo to Honolulu, another long boring flight. The conference starts on 3/13 and ends on 3/17, and I will arrive on evening 3/12, and leave at late night on 3/17, so there is probably not much time I can actually go around to see things. I will definitely not go to the other more beautiful islands, but I will try at least to see the main spots of interest in Honolulu, such as the Perl Harbor, the Wakiki beach, etc. I can of course extend my stay over there by using my own vacation time, but without Sue and Tanker, I simply have little interest. I am pretty sure three of us will have chance in the future to go there together.
One thing I wish to be able to do is to compare Hainan (wikipedia link) with Hawaii (wikipedia link), and Sanya with Honolulu, to get some general sense of the future of my investment in our Sanya vacation home. I believe these two places are very much comparable and competitive in terms of its nature and economical value to its mainland country. In fact, Hainan and Hawaii are pretty much at the same latitude with Hainan being a little bit further South: 18°N to 29°N for Hawaii and 4°N to 21°N for Hainan, and each is the largest tropical island respectively to its motherland. Coincidentally, both names start with HA. Of course I understand I really should be comparing Sanya with other more scenery Hawaii islands such as Maui or Kauai while Honolulu is more parallel to Haikou as a capital city, but since I am not going to those places …
