Kids running in Xiangyang Park
Is March still the Month of Courteousness and Civility like it used to be in my elementary school time? I know this is a weird question, but somehow it popped into my mind. I guess part of the reason is the weather has really improved a lot these couple of days, and the warm breeze, the smell of new grass in the air, and the joyful running kids in a local park at the corner of Huaihai Road(淮海路) and Xiangyang Road(襄阳路) this afternoon somehow reminded me of my pupil time. Back then we had to really apply ourselves, volunteer to help others as much as possible, and speak politely in this month because this was pretty much the Month of the Year teachers would particularly praise or even award students for good social behaviors and punishments for the wrongdoings such as swearing and fighting (打架骂人) could be harsher then usual. I don’t recall being appraised or rewarded or anything like that, but I still have the vague memory that I (and some of my buddies) had to be extra careful not to get the severe version of the disciplines. Oh well, that was fun. Anyhow, we shall all feel happy now as the cold winter is finally over, and spring is here in town.
